Please don’t let fandom ruin something you love. Walk away and unfollow the fans and enjoy the thing by yourself, or find a limited circle of people who ignore the discourse, or get your irl friends into the thing and collectively ignore the Internet community, or blacklist from here to the moon if you need to and only ever scroll through your rarepair ship’s tag on AO3. But don’t let fandom distort a show or a movie or a book or a comic you used to love so badly that you can’t enjoy the original anymore. Please. It isn’t worth it.

My roommate, who has seen a total of 15 minute of this show’s first episode, saw this bit and said “Huh, little dramatic isn’t he.”

okay, but we need to talk about this parallel. Ali’s dimples. Ali’s happiness. Ali’s happiness with Emily. And only Emily. You know what else is so beautiful about this parallel too? “That’s why I love you. You’re big on happy endings”. Ali said this to Emily in episode 1x09. You know what Ali also said to emily in 7x16? “I wanna do this together. I wanna be a family. I love you”. After all those years, after everything, after all this time, her feelings for Emily were always there and never got away, and this ladies and gentlemen is one of the most beautiful things i’ve ever seen, and i’m emotional now bye

Poor girls. The world fattens them on the promise of love. How badly they need it, and how little most of them will ever get. The treacled pop songs, the dresses described in catalogs with words like ‘sunset’ and ‘Paris.’ Then the dreams are taken away with such violent force; the hand wrenching the buttons of the jeans, nobody looking at the man shouting at his girlfriend on the bus.

The infamous scene where Marlene Dietrich kisses another woman - which was added to the script at Dietrich’s suggestion - was saved from being cut by the censors by Dietrich herself. She came up with the idea of taking a flower from the woman before kissing her and then giving the flower to Gary Cooper, explaining that if the censors cut the kiss the appearance of the flower would make no sense.

This was not the only thing that was controversial at the time of release (1930). She also wore a tuxedo designed for a man in this scene.
