A reminder that turning in assignments for partial credit is better than not turning them in at all. It is. Even if you think you’ve done a bad job and are ashamed of your work, or it’s way overdue, you take whatever you can get. Partial credit dramatically improves your grade over a zero, and I’m always astounded by how often even the smartest kids don’t really comprehend that. 60% is worlds better than 0%. Even 10% is going to help you. Letter grades are misleading and are not created equal. “F"s are mathematically valuable. Turn that late assignment in.

This goes for so many things in life tbh.

Can’t pay the full amount you owe on a bill? Pay as much as you can each month. Most places just wanna know you’re making a good faith effort. You can usually even call and ask for a smaller minimum monthly payment plan until you catch up, so that maybe you won’t be getting late fees added on to your balance. It’s worth calling to see.

Third time you’ve had to reschedule that doctor’s appointment? Oh well. Your doc probably just wants to make sure you make it in to their office at all. Keep trying.

Half-assing is always better than no-assing folks. I know lots of us are anxiety-ridden perfectionists and it feels like if we can’t do everything exactly right on the first try we just shouldn’t bother. But that’s not true.

My mom likes to say “anything worth doing is worth doing poorly” to emphasize that it’s okay to enjoy doing things even if you’re not good at them. The point is doing them. Make that shitty art project that makes you happy. Learn that new skill even if you suck at it at first. Make it to under half of the events of that club or organization you want to be a part of but can’t fully commit to. It’s okay. You don’t have to do it perfectly to do it at all.

anything worth doing is worth doing poorly.

God i wish someone told me this in middle school

“You can criticize something you love!”

Yeah, and you can also get tired of criticizing something you love. You can get completely fed up with it and decide, “You know what? Flaws aside, I love this thing, and I don’t have to waste hours of my life admitting its flaws to strangers on the Internet in order to somehow justify my love of it.” You can get sick of watching others gleefully tear it apart, for no reason other than that it’s popular and they hate that you love it. You can get sick of watching others tearing it apart with good intentions, too.

In the end, it’s just a cartoon, or a book, or a movie. It’s not that serious, and you can enjoy it without hyper-focusing on its flaws. You don’t need to justify your love of something to someone else, least of all a person you don’t even know.

I’m surprised it’s only 40% tbh, but I guess it’s because people are gathering and watching it together instead of in individual households? Although maybe fewer people are watching it nowadays, or at least watching it live.

But yeah, it’s a series of clips presented by the grasshopper (I forget his name in English rn), some of the clips are the same every year and some are switched out with the newest Disney things, it’s mostly dubbed into Swedish which sucks, and it’s very much a tradition to watch it on Xmas Eve (which is when we celebrate) to the point where opening presents and eating food is planned around it.

General > accessibility > reduce motion: on

General > handoff & suggested apps: off (unless you need it)

General > accessibility > increase contrast: reduce transparency. (This makes some things uglier but REALLY helps your charge last longer)

Bluetooth: off (when you aren’t using it)

Display & brightness > auto-brightness: off (turn it down lower than halfway to preserve battery)

Sounds > vibrate on ring: off

Privacy > location settings: make sure only the apps that need your location are switched on

Privacy > diagnostics and usage: don’t send

Privacy > advertising > limit ad tracking: on

iTunes and App Store: turn off all automatic downloads

General > spotlight search > only check what you need (eg. I only have contacts, apps and music checked)

Make all these changes and your phone will run like fifty times faster and it’ll preserve your battery power.

OK, I did every single one of these things, and I’m about to tell you that this is not a fucking joke. My battery has lasted twice as long as it normally does ever since I made these changes and they honestly aren’t even a big deal, not a single one has effected use. Mom holy FUCK.
