What do you think of January?

January is tough. He has to be, really, coming right after December, after Christmas and the holidays, after presents and food and snow and happy. He has to be, because he’s first, the first month, first impressions, he’s the first promise to ourselves that we make for the year. He’s tired already and unsuccessfully tries to tune us out, but January is hopeful. He’s hopeful that we’ll keep our word. That the world will keep turning. That things will get better. That this year, finally, things will be different. I have a new-found respect for January. It’s not my favorite month by any means, but it’s an important month. I do a lot of settling in January. There’s taxes and the FAFSA and student loans and just general adult things that I don’t like doing but they have to get done. January means being an adult. January is serious, maybe a little too serious, but he’s forgiving. He understands.
