Interesting framing in a preparedness ad, appealing to duty and altruism rather than self-interest: “If you do your civic duty and can manage for 72 hours in a time of crisis, society’s resources can be spent on helping those most in need.“
I’ve known for a long time that it would be good to store enough emergency supplies to manage for a little while, but as long as I’ve been thinking of it in terms of self-interest, the probability of such a crisis has never felt high enough to make it feel compelling. But if I think of it in terms of helping others by not needing help myself, then that thought feels much more compelling.
