Look, I’ve never felt any pressure from you that I co-parent. But your idea that I take no responsibility for raising your child…it’s naive. It’s not that I think you’re not capable of raising a child on your own – of course you are – but short of us dissolving our partnership, I’m not capable of not being involved. N-Not  as the child’s father, but as it’s…mother’s friend.

#i don’t think i can put into words just how pivotal this moment is #because for so long we’ve been presented this female Chinese-American Watson and decided not to question it #“why is her last name Watson? because her father’s white; let’s move on” #“watson doesn’t have to be a white male; here’s proof of that!” #and that’s a perfectly fine way to engage a text #but suddenly we have this; something that engages in the complexity and cultural baggage behind that kind of name; that kind of title; #the cultural heritage and the politics of otherness vs assimilation that an immigrant’s name bears #that’s *huge* in terms of the meta-narrative and how to interpret a text because so many Holmes adaptations are just different variations #of the same song #Joan Watson was not born a Watson; she stepped into the name #it doesn’t just challenge and update the Holmes mythos but actively interrogates it #by asking it why this narrative is a) so exclusionary and b) so stifling in its interpretations #that’s extremely meaningful in terms of how we engage with cultural symbols and a franchise as symbollic as the Holmes mythos #anyway: i’m emotional/screaming/dying my skin is clear etc etc (tags via @stardust-rain)

Sherlock Holmes, world’s happiest service sub.

What kills me about this is that (1) Joan came over the night before wearing dressy date clothes. So if she doesn’t have any clothes left at the brownstone, does that mean she’s sleeping in one of Sherlock’s t-shirts? I VOTE YES. And (2) she approves of the dress, which is adorable, but then if you keep watching, she opens up the box and there are HIGH HEELED ANKLE BOOTS in there. As I just noted, Joan came over the night before wearing perfectly fine dressy shoes! I can totally understand Sherlock planning ahead and storing up an extra outfit, just in case Joan comes over & spends the night & they’re in a big hurry in the morning…. but in what scenario is she not going to be wearing shoes already? Any time Joan comes over, she’s going to be wearing shoes. Sherlock did not need to buy her new shoes. HE JUST WANTED TO and also probably he did it so that Joan would have shoes to complement her dress. What if Joan’s shoes from the night before didn’t go with the dress Sherlock bought? UNTHINKABLE. Sherlock will not let Joan out in public looking less than her 100% best. That means a dress AND the perfect shoes to go with.
